What Might Have Been

from Cherish by Emma Sidney

/

about

Inspired by Mike Stern's visit to the Melbourne International Jazz Festival 2013, I asked and was granted permission to write and record lyrics to his instrumental "What Might Have Been".

lyrics

How would our children laugh and play?
In every dream they still seem real
They never got the chance to feel the sunlight
A might have been to draw us near

Butterfly brushes by my cheek
I realise it's just a tear
Caught up by cold Autumn wind flies my sorrow
A touch a tear so much has gone

And now the leaves they fall
And Winter comes too fast
Oh I can't let go of our love
What might have been

I know I should get up move on
But I still feel your arms around me
They draw me close and I can feel your heartbeat
'Though it has stopped but here in me
